Project Results in New Stairs & a Happy Homeowner

When Repairing Homes, Restoring Hope received a recent call from an older homeowner concerning her back stairs, the program swung into action. The stairs were too tall and steep and needed a railing. Her husband has mobility issues, and she was nervous for both of them.
Two days of work by RHRH volunteers Bobby Nelson and Mike Moise resulted in a set of safe new stairs and a happy homeowner.

Beginning the Year with a Job Well Done

Volunteers with Repairing Homes, Restoring Hope, a ministry of ABCORI’s Elder Care Ministries, completed a major project for an older homeowner on January 3.
Lincoln Smith, Manny Alves, and Ron Provencal from Lakewood Baptist Church where the older homeowner is a member, along with RHRH Coordinator Bobby Nelson and Mike Moise, removed damaged sheetrock, insulation, and the drop ceiling in the basement so another agency can insulate and make the house more energy efficient.
"It was an awesome day," said Lincoln Smith. "It was hard work but very rewarding, and in about 4 1/2 hours the job was completed. It was a great accomplishment for me to have been able to help someone in my church family. As Bobby said, it is the camaraderie and the sense that God is right there with us on these projects that really matters. I hope to be able to be part of this ministry more in the new year."

A Bathroom Rescue
When is a bathroom makeover more than just a renovation?
In the case of a recent Repairing Homes, Restoring Hope project, it's when the makeover actually is a rescue.
The bathroom floor in the house of an older homeowner was in such bad condition that it was dangerous to enter the room. (Ask our volunteer, whose foot went through the floor.)
After several weeks of work, the bathroom has a new (and safe) floor, as well as a sink that allows for greater mobility in the room, grab bars for safety, and a retiled shower.
This rescue was done at no cost to the homeowneer
--thanks to a committed volunteer who provided all the labor and funds from Elder Care Ministries to cover the cost of supplies.
